Close to 150 educators from across the country came together for the University of Washington Center for Educational Leadership’s annual institute for school and district leaders. The Summer Leadership Institute focused on helping principals, superintendents and other central office leaders improve their instructional leadership practice and learn new ways to inspire growth in others, while offering new ideas and insights for transforming traditional professional learning with the ultimate goal of providing equity for all students.

A look inside Central Louisiana's successful school leadership development model

Twenty-two Central Louisiana educators are fully prepared for instructional leadership positions after completing a three-year training that is designed to ultimately impact student achievement. Aspiring Leaders is a leadership institute administered by The Orchard Foundation and funded under The Rapides Foundation’s Education Initiative. The Aspiring Leaders curriculum was developed specifically for Central Louisiana by the University of Washington Center for Educational Leadership.

AASA launches the National Principal Supervisor Academy

AASA, the school superintendents association, has partnered with the University of Washington Center for Educational Leadership to bring CEL's Principal Supervisor Professional Development Program to all central office leaders who support principals' instructional leadership growth as their primary responsibility.

The content for this academy will be based upon the Council of Chief State School Officers Principal Supervisor Standards, the latest research on adult learning and leadership development, as well as promising practice from districts across the country. The academy participants will work from problems of practice, use cycles of inquiry, learn from case studies, and utilize virtual professional learning communities and virtual individual coaching.

The program will be limited to 50 participants. Application deadline is August 15, 2017.
