Instructional Leadership in Action

New Website Resource for Implementing Higher Academic Standards

by UWCEL on Apr 2, 2015

lhas-announcementThe University of Washington Center for Educational Leadership (CEL) in partnership with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has launched a new website resource to help school districts across the nation with their implementation of higher academic standards. Bringing together tools, case studies, webinars and videos, this site offers a wide variety resources to deal with common implementation challenges resulting from the recent shift toward Common Core State Standards.

Higher academic standards are a critical component of high quality instruction. They create a roadmap for how students should be performing at each grade level. This collection of resources supports districts in this difficult transition and shows solutions some districts have developed to deal with common implementation challenges.

The tools, resources and case studies presented here are the result of three convenings that brought together 14 school districts from Kentucky, Louisiana and Colorado to share their successes and challenges around implementation and continued work around Literacy Design Collaborative (LDC) and Math Design Collaborative (MDC), two teacher-created instructional design systems that support teachers with the implementation of new math and literacy standards.
